About Me
My particular brand of artistry stems from a long career in the welding industry. I began as an apprentice in the UK naval fleet dockyard and luxury yacht business in Plymouth before I qualified as a welder and fabricator in 2000. I have worked in welding and fabrication for over 25 years in a number of prestigious companies in both the UK and Australia.
Today, I still work for in the welding industry and have gained a raft of qualifications.
Pleased with the outcome of my early efforts, I took on bigger and more ambitious pieces, such as my take on the Great Wave off Kanagawa, and sculptures fashioned from nuts and bolts, horseshoes and metals then polished to a high shine. Garnering interest on social media I began to get commissions for private pieces.
When I’m making sculptures often the line between practical endeavour and artistic vision can be a blurry one – we need only to look at the works of Antony Gormley, Anish Kapoor and Jeff Koons to see where aesthetic form takes shape from functional material.
I’m continually exploring weld art and visualising how I want the end product to look. If I’m not happy with it, I have to change it – being something of a perfectionist when it comes to art and welding means I cannot rest until it is just so. I have many ideas for future art, which include using other mediums such as grinders and a flame torch to achieve heat tinting as well as engraving in conjunction with welding.
If you’re interested in one of my pieces or a bespoke commission, please feel free to contact me.
